Sheltered Housing

Sheltered Housing

We are currently reviewing all of our sheltered schemes - read the latest information here: I live in a sheltered scheme

We have 34 sheltered housing schemes in the district. We employ Scheme Managers to manage them and also have office-based staff who help to run the schemes.

A sheltered housing scheme is a group of individual, self-contained properties for older people that are managed by a Scheme Manager on site. Most sheltered housing schemes also have communal facilities such as a common room for residents to use.

Why sheltered housing?

If you want to lead an independent life in a home of your own, sheltered housing might be the right choice for you. It is designed to provide independence in a secure and friendly environment, with the reassurance of having a Scheme Manager at hand if needed.

The service provided by the Scheme Managers is tailored to meet your needs and can range from:

  • Responding to emergencies
  • Making daily contact to check you are well
  • Drawing up a support plan that will detail the support needs you have in order to stay independent and look after your health

Scheme Managers do not carry out any personal care or domestic duties for tenants, but will put you in touch with other care, support and welfare service providers that do.

Each sheltered housing property is linked to the Community Call alarm system. This provides 24 hour emergency cover. More about Community Call.

Supporting people

Supporting People is a national Government grant programme providing housing-related support services to help vulnerable people live independently. Bucks County Council administers the programme on our behalf. If you think you or someone you know may be eligible for help, please contact our Supporting People Housing Officer on 01494 476214 or the Supporting People team at Bucks County Council.
