Community fund - how to apply
What is the Community Fund?
We have promised a sum of £100,000 each year for the next five years to be spent on projects or facilities which improve the quality of life for local residents. We are inviting members of the community to put in bids for a share of the funding.
What kind of projects of facilities will be considered?
Any project of facility will be considered if it improves the quality of life in some way for local residents. It must also:
- be financially sustainable in the long term
- be accessible to all
- have the support of local people
- support the community in displaying our values of partnership, respect and pride.
Projects or facilities will be given higher priority if they involve:
- young people
- the provision of further housing and community facilities, which could include play areas and open spaces
- match funding from other services/organisations.
How do I apply?
You can apply for a share of the funding by filling in a simple form Community Fund application [docx] 63KB with details of your proposal. You will be asked to give as much information as possible to support your bid and show how it meets the criteria above.
There is also a helpful sheet on how to complete the form here: How to apply for the Community fund 4.docx [docx] 62KB
What happens next?
Our Community Engagement Officer will contact you and make an appointment to come and visit you to discuss you application in more detail. The application will then be presented to the Community Fund Panel made up of Board members, senior staff and other interested parties. The panel meets quarterly to consider proposals. You may be asked to come along to talk about your project or facility so that we are fully informed about the proposal.
If your application is asking for funding of £10,000 or more, the proposal will also need the approval of the Board. We will keep you informed about the progress of your application throughout.

GALAXY Hot Chocolate Fund (UK)
Food manufacturer, Mars has announced that they are looking to help small, local community based projects and community minded people through our GALAXY Hot Chocolate Fund. From the 4th November 2013 for 16 weeks they are seeking to donate eighty £300 awards to help people or groups with their community programmes. The Fund is open to individuals aged 18 or over who are resident, and organisations and clubs based, in the UK or the Republic of Ireland ("ROI"). Mars will make 5 awards every week. One of these awards will go to the application receiving the most votes on the Website in the week in which it was submitted. The other four awards each week will be selected by a panel of judges who will judge each entry on the extent to which the proposed initiative (and use of an award) will help its local community, the extent of the proposed initiative's reach, and the perceived local need for such hobbies, sports or leisure activities. Unsuccessful applications submitted in any week will be carried forward to be re-considered in subsequent weeks whilst the Fund is open, although any votes recorded on the Website in previous weeks will be discarded. The closing date for applications is 11.59pm on Sunday 23rd February 2014….
